It’s the time of year where our school gets its Item Information Report (IIR) from EQAO, and administrators and teachers sit down to take a look at the data and figure out what it all means. This can be challenging for many teachers and administrators. Last year, data was shared by EQAO in PDF format, which made it tough to work with. This year, they’ve made the same data available in and Excel Spreadsheet, which you can at least manipulate.
Unfortunately, it’s still not the easiest data to work with as you can see in the first screenshot below. But, I’ve created a template that allows you to copy and paste the data from your school’s IIR report into an Excel 2007 spreadsheet and hopefully, get something a little more useful, very quickly. You can check out a video I made to see how it works by clicking here.

Organized and Summarized Data
One think to keep in mind is that the comparisons made using this spreadsheet do not take into account the weighting schemes that EQAO may be using to determine the final “level” of student performance. So the averages and comparisons that this template show are for the responses of students at your school to individual questions and groups or types of similar questions. This means you may see a difference between the percentage of students performing at or above the provincial standard here, and what is published in the EQAO School Reports.

The Internet Explorer browser doesn’t seem to recognize the new Excel 2007 format. If you’re using MS Internet Explorer, right-click on the link here and choose Save File As… to download the file and save it to your desktop. Once it is on your desktop, right click on the file and choose Extract to unzip the file and use it.
Spreadsheet (MS Excel 2003) – This version won’t make the nice colour bars, but you can still manipulate the lists and get the summary data. It hasn’t been fully tested, so let me know if you find errors.
